Do you want to live for something that will last? As we read 1 John 2, the contrast between what is good and what is sinful is striking. The Evil One is conquered (v. 13), the darkness is passing away (v. 8), and the world and its sins are passing away (v. 17). But the light has begun to shine (v. 8), the will of God remains forever (v. 17), and God has promised us eternal life (v. 25).

What motivation to live for Christ! Satan and sin may make enticing promises, but they can’t out-promise God. Satan is losing, sin is dying, and the world is fading, but righteousness endures. When Christ returns, may we be found in Him and inherit forever (v. 28).

What would it look like to live for eternity instead of the present world?
