This sermon by Peter was the first clear proclamation of the Gospel after Christ’s Ascension into heaven. Peter broke it down for them: unlike David or any other biblical hero, Christ died, was buried, and raised, and then ascended to the Father’s right hand. Whomever you might see as a hero in your life, the truth is that only Jesus is Lord. Therefore, allegiance to Him, submission to His authority, and the acts of repentance and baptism are the logical conclusions.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is God’s promise to seal us for salvation and empower us to live out the Gospel. Indeed, even Christians with the Holy Spirit’s help are called to remember and live in light of the Gospel (John 14:26).
