According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of adversary is “an enemy or opponent.”

Today’s passages highlight the ways that Satan actively opposes God, and yet is still under His authority. We know that God is over all things! Sin is anything that disobeys God’s commands. Satan tempts us with sin; he works to see us disobey God. We see this in 1 Chronicles 21. Satan provoked David to be prideful and to number those who were in the kingdom. This went against what God desired for David’s kingship. Again, in Zechariah we see Satan standing in the presence of God to accuse Joshua before the Lord. Satan is an enemy to God and His Holiness and an enemy of His children.
