Week 49 Devo – WEDNESDAY
The author of Hebrews challenges us to “lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us” (Hebrews 12:1). Have you ever noticed that track athletes don’t wear hoodies, jeans and winter boots to compete in? Track shoes and athletic wear are very light because runners don’t want the extra weight to slow them down. We are running a spiritual race and should be careful not to carry extra weight that holds us back.
It may be the baggage of your past or the sin you are struggling with in the present. It may be grief, bitterness, anger or unforgiveness. It could even be distractions that are stealing your focus away from God. Lay those things aside and look to the Savior. Keep your eyes on the One who endured the Cross but who is now seated at the right hand of God. God will be faithful. Jesus’ pain resulted in glory, and all those who run with faith will be glorified with Him.
What do you need to lay aside in order to run your race for Jesus?
