Contrary to what society might try to tell you, it is very dangerous to follow your heart. Jude said that those who rebelled in the past acted on their instincts and were destroyed (v. 10). Our nature is sinful. Like Cain, we are prone to violence; like Balaam to greed; like Korah to rebellion. Our hearts must be brought in submission to Christ.

It is likewise dangerous to correct one who has gone astray with your own wisdom and authority. Jude gives the example of when Michael fought Satan and said, “The Lord rebuke you” (v. 9). The real power and authority is in God. So, we speak His Word. His Word changes our hearts and tears down the lies of the Devil.
