Week 8 Devo – TUESDAY

Hot Topics: Partying and Drinking

Getting drunk is a sin.

The book of Proverbs is full of wise sayings for our lives. This particular passage speaks to the destruction that comes from alcohol. The NLT translation says that drunkenness brings anguish, sorrow, fighting and complaining, strong opposites to the Fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22. Paul goes as far as to say in Ephesians 5:18 that you cannot be filled with both wine and the Holy Spirit.

As followers of Christ, our goal is to fulfill Jesus’ “new command” – “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34). Getting drunk keeps us from genuine love of others and worship of God, and is therefore a sin. We must abstain from overindulging on alcohol as an act of love and service to God.

What things in life can become sin when we overindulge?
