Week 20 Devo – TUESDAY

Gospel-Centered: God’s Wrath

We need to help people understand God’s wrath and how it can exist at the same time as God’s love.

God’s love is the one trait most people like to focus on, but that’s not the only characteristic He displays. The Bible says that “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men…” (Romans 1:18).

What do you think of when you hear the word wrath?

When most people hear this word, they think of something such as burning anger that is seeking revenge. When the Bible talks about God’s wrath, it’s a reference to God’s burning anger that must punish injustice. God’s wrath is not out of control rage. If it were, every person on earth would have already been destroyed the first time they ever did something wrong. However, the Bible does say that God’s wrath is abiding on every sinner (John 3:36), and eventually that wrath will bring destruction to them.
