Week 20 Devo – THURSDAY

Gospel-Centered: God’s Son

So here is the mind-blowing, crazy thing – God loves us with a perfect love, and at the same time His wrath burns against our sin and will eventually send us to hell for that sin. Thankfully for us, God provided a substitute … a replacement that would take all of God’s wrath. Instead of your and my having to face separation from God for eternity, God sent His Son to earth to take all that wrath on Himself. Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, came to earth and lived a life with no sin. He hit the mark! Then, after living for around 33 years, Jesus allowed Himself to be executed in the most brutal way known to man – He was crucified. God’s wrath was poured out on His own Son as He paid the price for our sins. That’s why John 3:16 is so important: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believeth in him would not perish, but have eternal life.”

But the most amazing thing about this may be that three days after He was murdered on the Cross, Jesus rose from the dead. How could He do that? Because He is God’s Son.
