Week 3 Devo – FRIDAY

Disciplines: Giving

Paul speaks of the “health and wealth” preachers of that time, who taught that following Christ would mean financial blessings. Paul made it clear that true godliness lies in learning to be content with whatever God has given us. When we long to be rich, we are in danger of falling victim to many traps that can lead us to spiritual destruction and, at times, physical destruction.

  • What is the danger that comes with wanting to be rich? What does it mean to be content?

Emphasizing that we come into this world with nothing and leave with nothing reminds us that everything this world offers is only temporary. Only the things of God are eternal. Too often we fall into the trap of earthly gain, rather than being content with what God has given us. Your “reward” for following God is not money; it is an eternity in heaven, and that is priceless!
