The Bible teaches that God is love (1 John 4:8). In fact, He is the source of all love, and He desires to show His love to people in real ways. But we must also understand that God is just, and He will, according to His character, punish sin.

Because of His great love, God grieves the effects of sin, and longs to deliver His people from sin and death. When we come to Jesus in faith, God forgives us, and then He calls us to love others in the same ways that He does. If we’ve experienced the love of God and have been freed from our sin, we should choose to selflessly love others so that they, too, would experience the same.
