Week 27 Devo – TUESDAY
We see that when someone has been anointed with the Spirit of God, Satan wants to steal, kill, and destroy his/her ministry. Here, Jesus is tempted with food, a natural substance needed to sustain the physical body. However, Jesus understands that the spiritual is more important than the physical, and His teachings as well as His lifestyle clearly show this. Jesus, although fully God, was also fully man and thus felt what we feel. Naturally, after His 40-day fast, He was hungry. Satan tempts Jesus to do a miracle to feed Himself. Interestingly, Satan is indirectly acknowledging the deity of Jesus, that He truly is God! Jesus rebukes Satan by using Scripture from Deuteronomy 8:3, showing that His strength truly comes from the God and not from food. The central idea of fasting centers around placing our focus on the Lord. Jesus, in the midst of temptation, needed to rely on the strength of His heavenly Father to carry Him through the difficult trial. This passage speaks volumes about God’s honoring our faithfulness.
