Week 6 Devo – MONDAY
Am I Ready?
1 Corinthians 13 is referred to as the “love chapter” by many, and it makes sense why! This chapter gives us a great picture of what real, true love is supposed to look like. However, this understanding of love is different from the world’s standard of love because it is not conditional, but covenant.
Many would say they “love” a day at the beach. When saying this, they are most likely picturing a day when the sky is blue and the weather is warm. However, would they still “love” a day at the beach when there is a massive hurricane blowing through, sand is flying, and they’re dodging beach chairs been thrown throughout the wind? … probably not. Conditional love requires the perfect elements and the right scenarios; however, covenant love is firm despite the circumstances around it. Why would we choose covenant love? Because this is the love shown to us in 1 Corinthians 13!
If we are to love others well, including those we want to pursue in a dating relationship, we must love as God loves us – this is a large task! Dating is not intended to simply satisfy personal desires, but rather, as a starting point for the marriage covenant; as a result, we must view dating with a serious respect to the weight in which it carries.
What’s the purpose of dating?
If the end result of dating is marriage, then are you ready for marriage?
