Your decision needs to be predetermined and rooted in glorifying God.

If you’re like most people, you have some items in your home with special purposes. Those special dishes or Pokemon cards or outfits may be kept in a special place to keep them safe. That’s because they retain their intended purpose by being protected from external elements. In the same way, followers of Christ are called to be holy (or set apart) so that we can glorify God. The best way to protect ourselves from the desires of the flesh is to be prepared for what we will desire and know how we will respond ahead of time. 

As sinful people, we know we will want to make the choice that glorifies ourselves or worships the opinions of our friends and peers. But as Galatians 5:22 points out, through the Holy Spirit, we can overcome the desires of our flesh and glorify the Lord.
