The ultimate thing to see in the Bible about marriage is that it exists for God’s glory. It is designed by God to display His glory in a way that no other event or institution does. In Ephesians 5, we see Paul quoting Genesis 2:24, saying man and woman will become one flesh. This points to a relationship far deeper and more permanent than any marriage displayed in media.

We see in Ephesians 5:32 that marriage is modeled after Christ’s covenant commitment to His Church. The design of marriage is patterned after Christ’s relationship to His redeemed people. Therefore, marriage is to put the relationship with Christ and His Church on display. The world wants to make marriage all about “us,” but the most beautiful part of marriage is that it’s bigger than just us.
