Week 1 Devo – tuesday

Obedience

Romans 7:4–6 (read)

Christians are no longer under the obligation and curse of the law because we have been crucified with Christ and have put to death our old self and its fleshly desires. The law brings condemnation to us all because we are guilty and cannot measure up to the law. We have each died to the law and now have a new, more efficient obligation to Christ who has released us from the law.

The law condemns us, but we are declared righteous through Christ’s death on the Cross that atoned for our sin and released us from the curse of the law. Our sinful passions were at work in us and bearing a fruit of death. Our call to Christ requires us to die to our former self and follow in obedience to Christ’s calling in our lives, which produces a life of fruit. Christ gives us a new purpose, a new calling and a new life. In Christ we are a new creation, the old life passes away and everything is new (2 Corinthians 5:17). This gives us plenty of reasons to wake up each day excited to passionately serve Him and walk in obedience as we seek His calling and direction for our lives.

What do you find most difficult about being obedient to Christ’s calling for your life?
