Week 37 Devo – WEDNESDAY
As Christians, we are part of the body of Christ. Paul reminds us that our bodies are one with the resurrected Christ and, in risen form, the Christian’s body will be eternal. What we do with our body now is important. So when a Christian commits sexual immorality, he or she is literally linking the body of Christ to immorality. According to Scripture, anyone who has sex with someone else literally “becomes one flesh” with that person. In the biblical understanding of sex, there is no such thing as casual sex. The world and media tell us the opposite of this. They say that having sex with whomever you want, whenever you want, is completely up to you.
Since we, as believers, belong to Jesus, we are supposed to glorify Him with our heart, mind, soul and body. This means we have no right to give ourselves away! Sex is like a fire – when it is safely contained in a fireplace, it can be awesome! But when it isn’t, it is horribly destructive. God doesn’t give us commandments and guidelines to keep things from us. He wants the opposite – He wants to give us every possible blessing.
Why does God take such a strong stance against sexual immorality?
What strides do you need to take today to better pursue purity in all areas of your life?
