This verse is in a conversation between Jesus and devout Jews. Jesus was challenging the false belief that Jews were not enslaved to any sin because they were offspring of Abraham and had always been free from (manmade) slavery. Through conversation, Jesus finally revealed the truth that if anyone practices sin, he is a slave to sin, and thus, in slavery to the Devil. Jesus revealed the truth about who the Devil is, what he says, and his character. And we know Jesus always speaks the truth because He is truth!
