Week 47 Devo – THURSDAY
Paul encouraged the Corinthians to give generously because the one who “sows sparingly will also reap sparingly” (2 Corinthians 9:6). In the end, however, each was to give joyfully and as they had decided. Think about your own relationship with material things. Are you content or discontent? We live in a very materialistic culture, and we should guard our hearts against the temptation to be motivated by things.
It is a challenge to cultivate a heart of generosity that is “free from the love of money” (Hebrews 13:5) when we are surrounded by commercials and advertisements telling us we need more. But when your heart is set on the values and priorities of God’s kingdom, you will be free to live generously.
Do you always need to have the newest and coolest trend, or are you thankful for what you already have?
