The Word of God says that every good and perfect gift comes from God Himself (James 1:17). Joy is one of the gifts God gives generously. When we believe in Jesus, we are given His Spirit, who makes our hearts His home. In Christ, we have all the Fruit of the Spirit in us – including joy. The Word tells us that in God’s presence, there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). This means we cannot experience joy apart from the presence of God. The Holy Spirit is the presence of God in us. Therefore, walking with the Spirit brings joy. Only in His presence can we experience anything purely good, and in His presence, we experience the highest good. We need to be with Jesus, for there is no good thing apart from Him (Psalm 16:2)!
