Week 14 Devo – THURSDAY
“What time does worship start? When is it over?” How many times have we asked these questions or something similar? Now, I realize that we are typically talking about church service times when we ask these questions. So, we usually respond with, “Worship starts at 10:30 a.m., and it ends when the pastor stops preaching. Hopefully, it’s early enough to beat all the crowds from all the other churches to the restaurants.” Maybe, that is just me!
What is your favorite restaurant?
In Romans 12, Paul urged believers to present themselves “as a living sacrifice . . . this is your true worship (v. 1).” Another way to say it: worship is a lifestyle. When does the worship of Jesus start? At salvation. When is worship over? Never! You are now called to worship Jesus twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Everywhere you go on any day of the week, you are called to worship Jesus.
How does this truth change your view of worship?
Some people have rightfully pointed out that worshiping Jesus at church is easy. But what about living a lifestyle of worship at school, on your sports team, at the movies, and at your house? If followers of Jesus truly lived lifestyles of worshiping Him, this would change our schools, our communities, and our nation.
Worship is more than a song; it’s a lifestyle.
In what areas of your life do you have the hardest time worshiping Jesus?
The truth is you will never publicly live a lifestyle of worshiping Jesus, if you don’t live a lifestyle of worshiping Jesus privately through Scripture and prayer. The power to publicly display worship will only come from an overflow of privately worshiping Him.
PRAYER MOVEMENTS
Hands Up
A sign of surrender.
Worshiping Jesus as a lifestyle is seeking Him above all things at all times. Spend time praying to God and asking Him to give you the daily
perspective that His kingdom is always worth seeking above everything else. Surrender to the truth of what His kingdom is today.
Hands Open
A sign of emptying out.
What worship do you need to let go of today? Do you tend to worship created things instead of the Creator Himself? Empty out by placing proper worship on the One who deserves it.
When you get serious about right worship, you’ll also be in a serious spot to experience personal revival.
Hands Out
A sign of receiving.
Ask God to remind you of His power today. Receive the truth that God has called you to live a lifestyle of worship. You’re not worshiping a weak God but an all-powerful God, and nothing is impossible for Him. Let Him know you’re ready to receive this lifestyle through His power today.
