The world did not recognize Jesus as the Son of God because they were blinded by sin. In the same way, unbelievers do not recognize God’s children now (v. 1). So, we should not be surprised when the world mistreats us the way they mistreated Jesus (v. 13). We respond to such opposition by imitating Jesus’ love.

Our identity as the children of God will be revealed by our love. We cannot say we are His if we do not love. In order to love in a world full of hatred, we must look to Jesus. One day “we will be like him because we will see him as he is” (v. 2). So, in the present, let’s look to His Word in order to see and imitate His life.
