Have you ever felt deep pain you didn’t think would go away? Have you ever tried to mask that pain by harming yourself? The fact is that no matter what you are expecting to come from self-harm, the original pain is still there when you get past the self-inflicted pain. The problem is that God never intended for us to carry our pain alone. He is there to walk with us and carry our burden.

Beginning in Psalm 88:18, the psalmist reveals the depth of his pain, stating that his only friend is darkness. Then, immediately in Psalm 89:1, he begins with shouts of joy and thankfulness to the Lord. The pain he was feeling was not carried forward due to his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Self-harm does not remove your pain, and you must know that there are many healthy ways to deal with such pain. Do you have pain that you haven’t given to Jesus and need to surrender to Him today?
