Week 7 Devo – THURSDAY

Hot Topics: Christians and Politics

Christians have a unique nature; our identity doesn’t come from any earthly kingdom. In Mark 12, Jesus illustrates this in His response about paying taxes. He says we should pay taxes to whom they are owed but give God the things that are His. We are God’s people, created in His likeness. Christians are united worldwide – not by government, but by the One they serve. We belong to God, not Caesar. What unites us is our profession of faith and trust in Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross, not the president or our leaders.

No earthly kingdom, political structure or party can be the unifier of Christianity. It must be our Lord and God. He is the only One who holds all our beliefs and convictions with no concessions. We pay taxes to a government; money is created and governed by humanity. What belongs to God will always and only be His. This is why Christians unite under the banner of our heavenly Father and not an earthly kingdom, political structure or party.

  • How do you allow this earthly kingdom to give you identity every day?
  • What does it mean to belong to God (that you were created in His likeness)?
