Week 2 Devo – TUESDAY

The Deity of Christ

During Old Testament times, God spoke through prophets and other men of God, such as Jeremiah and Moses, to speak to His people. During the time between the Old Testament and the New Testament, God did not speak. People were anxious and saddened because of the lack of communication and loss of God’s favor. Then, God spoke! He spoke through the eternal Word, Jesus, His Son.

Who is the Word in John 1:1?

In the Bible, the writers use repetition to show emphasis. The phrase “In the beginning” is used only twice in the Bible. By repeating the phrase, John says that Jesus’ coming into the world is just as important as the whole earth’s being created.

Notice that in Genesis, “God created”; and in John, Jesus “was with God.” Jesus was not created by God. Jesus is God. God, being perfect and eternal, created the earth. Jesus, being perfect and eternal, was present at the creation of the world (Genesis 1:26). We must be careful not only to think of Jesus as our friend, but to honor and revere Him because He is God. He is the God of all creation.

Why is it important for you to know that Jesus is God?
