Week 3 Devo – FRIDAY

The Humanity of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man. Verses 19 and 20 say that all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, but it’s only through Christ’s blood and His becoming human that reconciliation could take place between heaven and earth. Christ is the ruler and Creator, and He made all things in order that those created things would glorify Him (verse 16).

What sort of things does the incarnation tell us about the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ? Perhaps most obviously, it tells us that the God with whom we are dealing is no distant ruler who remains aloof from the affairs of His creatures, but one who is passionately concerned with them to the extent that He takes the initiative in coming to them. God doesn’t just reveal things about Himself – He reveals Himself in Jesus Christ in order that we might be reconciled, or made right, by His blood.

Suppose you are in a room that is completely dark without any means of letting light in. Then someone knocks a hole in the wall and makes a window. The light is let in, and the room illuminated. We can also now see the outside world through the window, a world that was always there but one we couldn’t see properly before. Jesus is a window into God; He is the light who has come into the world and also lets us see God.
