In 1 Peter 5:1–4, Peter encourages pastors and church members in their callings and respective duties. Specifically, in verse 2, Peter reminds us of the heart posture we should maintain as we serve in obedience to the Lord: “willingly” and “eagerly.” Galatians 5:13 also gives us insight as to how we should act as servants. Not only does this verse confirm our call to serve as mentioned in Monday’s devotional, but tells us that we should do so “through love.” These aspects of our attitudes are vital to the service God calls us to. Whether serving the local church or serving food, we should do it willingly, eagerly and humbly in love to ultimately serve and represent Christ in the best way we can.
