Week 28 Devo – WEDNESDAY

The Early Church: Living Out the Gospel of Jesus

What is the greatest threat to Christianity in America? Responses from fellow believers range from Islam to the media. However, the greatest threat to American Christianity is what Jesus said 2,000 years ago: “No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” (Matthew 6:24). Money is not evil, of course. But it when it becomes our god, it destroys our souls. Imagine this, if Christians were to start giving just 10 percent of their incomes, $165,000,000,000 could be directed toward ending global hunger, eliminating death from preventable diseases within five years, healing the world’s water and sanitation problems, ending illiteracy, and funding overseas mission work. As Jesus said, “Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me” (Matthew 25:45).

Why should the generosity you show toward others reflect the generosity you’ve received through Christ in salvation?
