We, as believers in Christ, are to live by the Spirit, not by the flesh. As described here, when we live in the flesh, we will die. What this means is that living out our sinful desires leads to a painful life. But, if we put to death our fleshly nature and fight our sinful urges by living in the Spirit, we will experience life! Another thing the Scripture tells us here is that those who are led by the Spirit of God are adopted into the family of God. Paul even uses the word Abba, which is a term used in the Hebrew language to reflect the name “Dad” that we use today. It’s a term of endearment and love. Much like children are adopted into a loving family, we are adopted into the house and family of God when we accept Christ.
